Will you clean rugs in my home? Can I just Steam Clean my Rugs?
If you have a hand made rug there are several risks/results of doing steam cleaning. The solution used in steam cleaning is an extremely high PH which is very aggressive and meant to cut grease on wall to wall carpeting, not rugs. This will dry out/damage the wool over years as it remains in the wool. In addition, the aggressive solutions will often make the dyes run and bleed. If a rug starts bleeding few know what to do to stop the bleeding and not have major damage to their beautiful rug. IF you are still willing to take the risk, be sure and ONLY clean the direction of the nap. Do not go against the nap when wet… you can damage and make stripes on your rug that will be difficult or impossible to remove. We do NOT recommend steam cleaning unless the fiber is synthetic: Olefin, Polypropylene, Nyon, Polyester . A rug properly cleaned in shop will take up to several hours to clean through the 8 step process. A rug cleaned in the home , in no way duplicates the process that we provide in the shop. Do NOT clean wool rugs in the home.
How much will it cost to clean my rug?
There are too many factors that determine the cost without speaking with you. Please call us and we’d be happy to discuss it with you. Do I need a rug pad?
While the true answer is not always, most rugs benefit from having a rug pad. Here are the top reasons why you should consider buying a rug pad.
This is a question that many of our clients ask, so I thought we could cover the top reasons you should buy pad.
- To keep the rug in place and prevent you from slipping. Rugs without pads can wrinkle causing a tripping hazard. Other rugs are slippery, especially when on hard surfaces this too can be a slipping hazard. Our rug pad provides traction on both the floor side as well as the rug side to insure that this doesn’t happen.
- To give your rug support, acting much like a “shock absorber” on a car. As we walk on the rug and place furniture on our rugs the fibers are being crushed into the hard surface of the flooring. Over time this can damage the fibers. Having a pad lessens the impact.
- To act as a moisture barrier between rug and floor. Our pad provides protection to your expensive hard wood floors from spills or accidents on the rug.
- To provide some protection from insects. While not why most people would buy a pad, none the less, the pad does provide a barrier from the floor to the rug.
The pad that we sell in our shop is custom cut to fit your rug. It has a felt like substance on top to grip your rug and a 100% natural rubber in a hexagon pattern to allow air to circulate underneath. The features of our padding include: Certified Green, no odor or off gassing, 100% Recycled, works on Radiant heated flooring, won’t stain or discolor your wood floor, can be washed and has a full warranty. The closed cell backing creates a moisture deterrent to protect your wood floor.
